facing challenges

Be Strong and Courageous

Be Strong and Courageous

Life is full of moments that require us to be strong and courageous. Whether it’s facing a difficult decision, overcoming a personal challenge, or stepping into the unknown, these moments can be intimidating. But the Bible offers us encouragement:

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Deuteronomy 31:6

Understanding the Context

Deuteronomy 31:6 comes at a pivotal moment for the Israelites. Moses, their long-time leader, is preparing to pass the baton to Joshua as they stand on the brink of entering the Promised Land.

The journey ahead is full of uncertainties and challenges, but Moses reassures them with this powerful promise of God’s presence.

Strength and Courage from God

The call to “be strong and courageous” isn’t just about mustering up our own strength or putting on a brave face. It’s about trusting in the strength and presence of God.

The reason we can face our fears and challenges is because God is with us. His presence is our source of strength and courage.

Overcoming Fear and Anxiety

Fear and anxiety can easily take hold of us, especially when we’re facing something new or difficult.

But God’s promise in Deuteronomy 31:6 is a reminder that we don’t have to face these things alone.

The Lord your God “goes with you”—this means that in every situation, He is right there beside you.

When we focus on God’s presence rather than our fears, we find the courage to move forward.

God Will Never Leave You

One of the most comforting parts of this verse is the assurance that God will never leave us nor forsake us.

People may let us down, circumstances may change, but God’s presence is constant.

This promise gives us the confidence to face life’s ups and downs, knowing that we are never abandoned.

Practical Ways to Live This Out

  1. Lean on Prayer: When you’re feeling afraid or uncertain, take a moment to pray. Ask God to remind you of His presence and to give you the strength you need.
  2. Remember Past Victories: Reflect on times when God has been faithful to you in the past. Let these memories strengthen your faith for the present challenges.
  3. Stay Connected to Scripture: Regularly reading God’s Word helps keep His promises fresh in your mind. Verses like Deuteronomy 31:6 can become a source of comfort and encouragement when you need it most.
  4. Encourage Others: Just as Moses encouraged the Israelites, take time to encourage those around you who may be facing their own battles. Remind them that God is with them too.

Conclusion

Deuteronomy 31:6 is more than just a call to be brave; it’s a powerful reminder that our courage comes from knowing God is with us.

No matter what challenges you face, you can move forward with strength and confidence, trusting that God will never leave you nor forsake you.

Embrace this truth today, and let it guide you through whatever lies ahead.

Deeply Troubled

Deeply Troubled

In John 12:27, we encounter a glimpse into Jesus’ inner world during a pivotal moment in His ministry.

As He prepares for His upcoming crucifixion, the weight of what He must endure takes its toll. The verse says:

“Now my soul is troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour.”

John 12:27

Man of Sorrows

This verse is a powerful reminder that Jesus wasn’t just divine; He was also fully human. He experienced emotions like fear, sadness, and even doubt.

Here, He wrestles with the immense suffering that awaits Him.

Choosing Obedience Over Comfort

Despite His internal struggle, Jesus doesn’t ask to be saved from His fate.

He acknowledges the purpose for which He came: to die on the cross for our sins.

Finding Strength in Difficult Times

John 12:27 offers encouragement for us when we face challenges:

  • It’s Okay to Feel Troubled: Jesus, the Son of God, experienced emotional turmoil. It’s okay for us to acknowledge and express our difficulties.
  • God’s Plan is Greater: Even in the midst of suffering, God has a purpose. Trust that He is working behind the scenes, even when we can’t see it.
  • Focus on the Bigger Picture: Jesus found strength by remembering the purpose for His suffering – our salvation. Find strength by focusing on the hope and purpose that guides you.

How to Apply This to Your Life

  • Acknowledge Your Feelings: Don’t bottle up your emotions; you have the same access to God the Father as Jesus had!
  • Seek God’s Comfort: Prayer is a powerful tool to find strength and peace during difficult times.
  • Focus on Your Why: What keeps you going? What purpose are you striving towards? Let that be your guiding light.

John 12:27 reminds us that Jesus understands our struggles. He faced immense challenges and remained faithful to God’s plan.

By following His example, you can find the strength to navigate difficult times and live a life that glorifies Him.
