Resting on the Cornerstone: A Devotional on Isaiah 28:16

Resting on the Cornerstone: A Devotional on Isaiah 28:16

Have you ever felt like the ground was shifting beneath your feet? Like the things you thought were so stable and secure were suddenly starting to crumble?

Yeah, me too. It’s not a fun feeling, is it? But you know what? When I read the words of Isaiah 28:16, I find a sense of comfort and reassurance that can really help me through those times.

Unshakable Cornerstone

The verse says, “So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: ‘See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested and precious cornerstone, and the one who relies on it will never be put to shame.'”

Now, that’s a pretty powerful statement, isn’t it? God is essentially saying, “Hey, I’ve got something solid and secure that you can build your life on. It’s a cornerstone that will never let you down.”

The thing about a cornerstone is that it’s the foundation, the starting point, the thing that everything else rests on.

In the ancient world, builders would carefully choose the perfect cornerstone to hold up the entire structure. And that’s exactly what God is offering us – a Cornerstone that’s been tested and proven to be completely trustworthy.

Resting in Jesus

So, who is this Cornerstone that God is talking about?

Well, if you’ve been around the Bible for a while, you probably know the answer – it’s Jesus.

Jesus is the Cornerstone that God has laid for us to build our lives upon. He’s the solid, unshakable foundation that can withstand any storm or trial that comes our way.

When we put our trust in Jesus, we’re not just resting on some flimsy, man-made thing. We’re building our lives on the rock-solid reality of who He is – The Son of God, The Savior of the world, The One who has conquered sin and death.

And that means we can have a confidence and security that the world can’t shake.

Firm Foundation for Life

You know, the cool thing about this Cornerstone is that it’s not just for the “super spiritual” people. Nope, it’s for all of us who are looking for something solid to build our lives on.

Whether you’re facing a major crisis or just the everyday ups and downs of life, Jesus is there, ready to be the firm foundation that you can stand on.

When the ground feels like it’s crumbling beneath you, when the storms of life are raging all around, you can turn to the Cornerstone and find the stability and security you need.

Jesus won’t let you down or leave you hanging. He’s the One who can handle anything that comes your way, and He’s inviting you to rest in His unwavering love and power.

Choosing the Cornerstone

Take a good, hard look at where you’re building your life. Are you trying to construct your future on shaky ground, or are you anchoring yourself to the Cornerstone, Jesus Christ?

It’s a decision that will make all the difference, not just in this life, but for eternity.

Don’t settle for anything less than the security and stability that can only be found in Jesus. He’s the One who has been tested and proven, the One who will never let you down or leave you ashamed.

Christ Our Sure Foundation

Christ Our Sure Foundation

1 Corinthians 3:11For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Examining Our Foundation

As believers, we must ensure our lives are built upon the solid bedrock of Jesus Christ.

A strong foundation determines the integrity of the structure.

Christ Alone

Jesus made clear He alone is the cornerstone, the immovable foundation upholding our faith.

No human leader or worldview can substitute. Our lives must be rooted in Christ.

Assessing the Materials

With Christ as the foundation, we must take care to build wisely upon it.

Using temporary materials like selfish ambition, cultural trends, man-made ideals will not withstand fire.

Built to Last

When Jesus is our secure base, storms cannot topple us.

Lives rooted in His eternal truth produce fruit that endures. Such lives shine as beacons of hope.

Lord, Firmly Plant Me in You

Lord Jesus, You alone are the sure foundation for my life and godliness. Establish me firmly upon You, the solid rock. As I build each day, help me to use only materials from Your kingdom that will stand the test of time. You are my cornerstone.
